Garbage, Trash & Recycling Pickup Schedule & Rules

Garbage

Garbage carts must be placed in the front of your home for pick up on Friday mornings. Please do not put your Garbage cart out front until the night before it is scheduled for pick up. If you decide to place the Garbage cart out front on Friday morning, you must have it out by 7:00 AM to guarantee that it will be picked up. Place carts so that the cart handle faces your house and the front of the cart where the lid opens faces the street (see arrows on the lid). This will ensure the lid opens properly and is not damaged when emptied. There are no extra people to manually get out and collect excess garbage outside the cart. It is crucial that all garbage fit inside the cart to maintain the efficiency of the system. Bags or others items left outside the cart cannot be collected.

Please remove your garbage cart as soon as possible after Friday morning pick up. The City of Raleigh can fine you $50, for not removing your garbage cart by 7 PM.

Trash

Lawn trash must be in front of your home for pick up on Friday mornings, and must be in a clear plastic bag.

Tree limbs must not be longer than 5 feet and no thicker than 18 inches in diameter. They must be bundled together with string or be in boxes. The bundle or box cannot weigh more than 75 lbs.

Free Bulky Load Pickup - Free collection for bulky items that do not fit into the garbage carts is available. Bulky items are items such as household furnishings, household appliances, mattresses, box springs, lawn equipment, and similar household items too large to be placed in the rollout garbage cart. A bulky item collection load at a single address is limited to four (4) cubic yards (about a pickup load size). Note: If you schedule a free bulky load collection and it is deemed to be in excess of 4 cubic yards you may be assessed the fee of $50 for a Special Load Collection. You must call ahead to schedule a bulky item collection. You can schedule collection by calling Solid Waste Services customer service at 831-6890.

Recycling

Recycling items are picked up each Friday. The recycling trucks are not allowed on our streets due to asphalt damage. Therefore, you must take your recycling to the following locations:
